Sermon Scriptures

Take your sermons to the next level by including any scripture references in the sermon tile. Your Users can tap the Passages button to access all the scripture references directly in the app!

Want to show scripture outside of a sermon? You can link to Passages (and even customize the look) from anywhere you'd like, such as an announcement.

We support the American Standard Version (ASV) and English Standard Version (ESV). ASV is the default, but if you'd like to use ESV, contact Support.

Configure Scripture Links

In the Sermon Detail

You can show scripture directly related to a sermon. When Users tap the Passages button, the relevant scriptures display on a single page in the order they're listed on the Sermon record.

  1. PocketPlatform > Sermons.
  2. Select an existing Sermon, or create a new Sermon.
  3. Provide the relevant foundational Sermon information.
  4. In the Scripture Links section:
    • Add the scriptures that should be linked from the Sermon panel.
    • List the scripture references in the order they should display.
    • Separate the scripture references with a comma. For example: John 17:9-11,1 Kings 1:1-3,Genesis 1:1-4.
  5. Save.
Outside of Sermons

You may want to show scripture that's not directly related to a sermon. For example, you post an announcement about upcoming volunteer opportunities and want to include a link to Galatians 6:10. Set up these links anywhere in your dashboard or in "Link" type fields in the PocketPlatform pages in the Platform.

  1. Go to the appropriate place where you want to add the scripture link.
  2. Create your link using this format:
    [[APP_PREFIX]]passages/{scripture references}

  3. Mix and match these optional parameters to get the exact look you want! Enter a question mark (?) at the end of your link, then add one or more of these, separated by an ampersand (&).
    • heading={optional+Heading}
    • title={optional+Title}
    • subtitle={optional+Subtitle}
  4. Here's an example of what the link looks like with all the parameters included and how it displays in the app:
    [[APP_PREFIX]]passages/Philippians 4:6-7,Isaiah 41:10?heading=Screen+Header&title=Card+Title&subtitle=Card+Subtitle

  5. Save.

Troubleshooting

Scripture not showing up as expected? Here are some common issues to avoid:

  • Using an em dash instead of a standard dash ("Matthew 28:18—20" instead of "Matthew 28:18-20").
  • Not using the book of the Bible for each set of scripture ("Genesis 1:1-31,3:21" instead of "Genesis 1:1-31,Genesis 3:21").
  • Not using the English name for the book of the Bible ("1 Corintios 15:1-11" instead of "1 Corinthians 15:1-11").
  • Not using scripture references ("Selections from Psalms" instead of "Psalms 1:1-3").
  • Not including the verse ("John 3" instead of "John 3:16"). Note: This isn't always an issue. If you want to include the entire chapter, you can use "John 3" to display all verses of John 3 (1-36) in the app. Just be careful with this!
