Changing Security Role

The Administrator Security Role is associated with the Portal Admin page by default. This is defined in the Configuration Setting PORTAL,PortalAdminRoleID.

If you would like to grant Users access to the Portal Admin page without giving them Administrator rights in your platform, you can change the Security Role associated with the Portal Admin page using this procedure:

Creating a "Portal Admin" Security Role

  1. Save a Selection of Admins. It would be best to capture a list of all the people that had permissions to the Role previously set in PORTAL,PortalAdminRoleID so you can put them in the new Role. Here is one method:
    1. Find the Role specified in the Configuration Setting PORTAL,PortalAdminRoleID and find it in the platform
    2. Select the Users tab
    3. Select All
    4. Use XFer (transfer) verb (to the right of all the sub-page tabs) and transfer the selection to Users.
  2. Create a new Security Role named "Portal Admin".
    1. Make a note of the ID for the new Role (the name is not important). You will use this in step 5.
  3. Add Users to the new Role
    1. Use the Add verb in the sub-page of the new Security Role to add everyone from the selection.
This will ensure that everyone who had access still has it when you change the Role.
  4. Login to the Portal as an admin (or use Impersonate Portal user).
    1. Navigate to the portal admin page and leave this open in your browser.
    2. You will use this in step 6. Alternatively, you skip this step and use method b in step 6.
  5. Update the Configuration Setting (PORTAL,PortalAdminRoleID) to the new Security Role.
  6. Reload the Portal Settings. You can do this using two different methods:
    1. Use the "Reload Configuration" button. This refreshes the portal with the new Role for the Portal Admin page.
It requires you to be actively logged in as an admin. If you are not able to use this method, use method b.
    2. Visit the Portal Admin Page in your portal using this query (below) to reset the settings.
