Configure Print Service

System Requirements

The Check-In Suite Print Service must be installed on a machine that meets the following requirements:

  • Hardware Requirements
    • 2+ Gigs of RAM
    • 2+ GHz
  • Software Prerequisites
    • NET Framework 4.7.2 (or 4.8)
    • Support for SHA-256
  • Windows Desktop—Windows 10 or 11 (Pro or Enterprise)
    • Windows 10 requires updating to v1903 to support SHA-256
  • Windows Server
    • Windows 2016 requires updating to v1709 to support SHA-256
  • Unique machine name (cannot have the same machine name with another machine also running the Check-In Suite Print Service)
Important! The Check-In Suite Print Service requires installation on a Windows machine. Check-In Suite can be used on other systems; however, for printing label sets, the local machine or the machine with the remote printer must be a Windows machine. Bluetooth printing is not supported.

After you finish installing the print be sure to configure your printers! Find printer-specific instructions here. If you don't configure your printers, they might not work as expected.
  1. From the Configure Print Service dialog, click Verify.
  2. If needed, create a URL exception in your browser settings to allow Check In to communicate with the Print Service: https://127.0.0.1:2016/printService/Test. (Note: Most browsers require this step including Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.)
  3. Once configured and verified:
    1. You will see confirmation that the "Print Service Is Configured".
    2. A Print Server record will be created in the Platform.

Configuring a Remote Printer

From the machine connected to the remote printer, follow the steps for Local Printer above to install the Print Service*

From the local machine:

  1. From the Check-In Suite Home screen, choose Check-In Kiosk.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Print Settings.
  4. Under Print Labels, choose Specific Printer or Room (depending on how you have your remote printers organized in your building/kiosks).
  5. Update Printer Mappings as needed.

*Important* For remote printing, the Print Service in addition to the system requirements above must also be installed on your local network on a server that can talk to your printers:

  • For Dedicated and Shared Cloud churches, this means *not* your MP server.
  • For Self Hosted churches, your MP server is okay, but not recommended.
  • Ideally, use a local print server.

*Note: The machine acting as the remote printer does *not* have to run Check-In Suite. It simply must be a Windows machine.

Troubleshooting

Printing Service Notes
  • Once installed, you should *not* have to download the service on this machine for future Check-In Kiosk sessions.
  • The Check In Suite Print Service runs using the "Network Service" user (which means it must use Printer defaults, not printer preferences).
  • If you are using Windows Home, it may be necessary to grant permissions to the "Network Service" User account to print and manage documents (under Properties > Security).
  • A unique machine name is required (the service cannot be run on two machines with the same name).
  • The machine should be set to the correct current time. If the clock is too far in the future or the past, the Print Service will not be able to verify. Instructions for resolving this are in the September 2020 Release Notes.
Local Print Service Not Found

The Print Service install/verification feature is not available on mobile devices. See "Remote Printer" below.

Print Service Is Outdated or Mismatched Versions

Print Service may need to be stopped using the Services control panel on the server prior to updating.

For mismatched or outdated versions, download and reinstall the service by following the directions under "Configure Print Service"

The mismatched version dialog error will indicate the current Service Version and Required Version needed for program operation.
